While the French Quarter’s jazz clubs, iconic architecture, and melt-in-your-mouth beignets draw tourists from around the world, a hidden gem lies just 22 miles south of New Orleans. It’s an unspoiled bayou where ancient cypress trees line narrow waterways and the bellows of alligators punctuate the silence. An Airboat Adventures tour of Bayou Barataria is the best way to experience this unique ecosystem. U.S. Coast Guard-certified captains, who’ve plied these waters their entire lives, not only guide you through the maze of cypress-lined channels but also introduce you to the wildlife that calls the bayou home.

Whether you choose to explore this stunning waterscape on a speedy airboat or glide through calm waters on a covered pontoon boat, the enchanting world of the Louisiana swampland awaits you. Here are a few details to help plan your adventure.
